Plant more trees
In her August 1 column Lana Hart sees hope for the future in things like ‘‘machines that suck carbon out of the air’’ and ‘‘plastic-eating bacteria’’.
All very encouraging but wouldn’t it be better, in the latter case, simply to use less plastic?
Why is it seemingly impossible to buy, to choose just one example, batteries which are not accompanied by a hunk of plastic often bigger than the batteries themselves?
As for ‘‘machines that suck carbon out of the air’’ these have been around for millions of years. It is estimated there are 3 trillion of them in the world today. They are called ‘‘trees’’.
