Sport needs help

Sport has and still plays a prominent role in New Zealand. It offers many benefits to society.

However, one of the common themes is the increasing physicality of many of the codes and the huge attrition rate, as people reach late twenties and early thirties.

We need to refocus, develop and promote activities that provide more diverse lifelong skills.

Schools must be progressive and challenge the status quo, extensively promoting music, crafts and other artisan hobbies to the next generation.

Central and local government must also play their part and give the same financial and political support to these endeavours, as they have done for sport in the past.
