Okay boomer moment or not?
I was more than a little perplexed by the picture on TV One last Friday of a 16-yearold student on strike and demanding that New Zealand cut its dairy herd by 50%.
Is she or her audience aware of the significance of that demand – the decimation of the very industry which does much of the heavy lifting in the economy that provides the education she enjoys – when she is at school.
She needs to be aware of how bad for the planet her suggestion is.
Milk production in New Zealand is achieved with 40% of the environmental impact of that of the rest of the world.
This is done with skill, scale and the minimum use of machinery.
Serious environmentalists should be promoting the milking of many more cows in New Zealand, to replace those elsewhere in the world doing two and a half times the damage.
