Give Liam a wave

My name is Liam Carter and I'm 15 years old with cerebral palsy. I ride an upright trike around Hamilton nearly every day to get to school, work, meetings and for leisure.

I love and enjoy riding apart from when it's simply not safe to ride. I always wear a high vis and have lights on my bike. In July 2022 I came across a biking group called Bike ACTION Hamilton which taught me so many things about cycling.

On August 9 I attended my first Council meeting — Infrastructure Operations Committee. I spoke in the public forum introducing myself and speaking about problems in our city.

One of the problems is the staples on many cycle paths are not wide enough causing me to get off my trike and carry it over.

I have become a good advocate for trike cycling infrastructure talking to people through Zoom, Facebook, in person and in text learning about people's abilities on the road. I have been to a couple of events like the world car free day which was on September 22 where Hamilton City Council, Bike Waikato, our libraries, Bus it and Go eco all had tents there and I was lucky enough to be able to try a cargo trike which was so much fun.

Wave if you see me riding through Hamilton.
