Teen girl shot at home ‘recovering well’

A teenage girl shot in the back at her home in suburban Auckland a week ago is conscious and recovering well in hospital, as police hunt for the assailant. Detectives continue to investigate, but police are yet to make an arrest over what they suspect was a gang-related attack gone awry, in Mt Roskill on October 8. Stuff understands the 14-year-old girl was standing next to a family member in a bedroom of the Ka¯inga Ora state house in Morrie Laing Ave when she was hit, shortly before 9pm. A single bullet hole can be seen through the front window of the home and the lace curtain that hangs inside. The bullet struck the girl in the back. She was taken to hospital in a serious condition, but it is understood she escaped paralysis. Just after the shooting, a car was heard screeching away. Police do not believe the shot was intended to hit the girl.
