One dead, another in hospital after beach incident
One person has died and a second person is in hospital after a water-related incident at a North Shore beach. A police spokesperson confirmed they were called to Rothesay Bay just after 5pm. St John Ambulance said three ambulances had gone to the location along with two other St John vehicles due to reports of multiple people being involved. The provisional fatal drowning total for the year to date is 78. This includes six drowning deaths due to Cyclone Gabrielle in February 2023. That compares to 77 drownings at the same time last year and 94 deaths over the entire year.
