Climate emergency?
If the floods in Canterbury and Westport have not convinced us that we are already in a ‘‘climate emergency’’ then surely the devastation they have recently wrought on Germany and Henan, China should.
Apart from the floods, the unprecedented heatwaves in Canada and the massive forest fires in the southwest United States and Siberia suggest urgent action by all of us is essential.
Since this is just a foretaste of things to come, could I suggest a small action by our council to raise awareness and educate us about the issue and steps we can all take to address it.
The regional and city council have declared a ‘‘climate and ecological emergency’’, so why don’t they put an emergency link on the CCC and ECan homepage, to take us straight to the relevant sections of the website, rather than having to search for the ‘‘environment’’ link and then the ‘‘climate change’’ link.
