Fast learner

Two days, all it took was two days. Two days for PM Christopher Luxon to get that carefully blank, slightly unfocused, "I didn't see or hear anything" look when confronted with the embarrassing behaviour of a loud, obnoxious relative at a family reunion. The relative you can’t tell off in public – or private – because he'll take his 6% political party and go home in a huff.

Luxon has suddenly perfected the slight smile and the disingenuous surprise when pressed about how he's going to react to Winston Peters’ behaviour, the facial equivalent of, "Sorry, what? I didn’t see anything", before actually saying, “Sorry, what? I didn’t see anything”.

It only took two days, which shows Luxon is a fast learner – on how to turn a blind eye to unacceptable behaviour. Luckily that loud, obnoxious relative will never have to front the international media to represent his country … oh, hang on.
