After an amazing year at the tour last year, Black Spoke’s 2021 team of riders have quite a bit to live up to. The team boasts some great talent, with Olympic Omnium silver medallist and former Omnium world champion Campbell Stewart leading the way. James Fouche brings a wealth of experience with him, especially for a younger rider, having claimed the claimed the New Zealand Elite National Road Race title in 2019, as well as producing some great results overseas as a two time winner of the King of the Mountain classification at Le Triptyque des Monts et Châteaux. Luke Mudgway gives the team another option on the general classification, having taken sixth place overall in the tour last year. Logan Currie has had quite a season, topped off with an 11th place in the U23 Time Trial World Championships and an epic breakaway in the U23 Road Race World Championships. That strength will be very valuable to the team as they battle the conditions in Southland. Tom Sexton is a local lad, and as a former green jersey winner in the tour, and a bronze medal winner in the scratch race at the track cycling world championships, he can certainly deliver in the fast finishes. However, with an 11th place overall in the tour last year, he is a more than capable rider when the road tilts up as well. Joel Yates rounds out the team, and with a sixth place at the Time Trial National Championships this year, along with some extensive experience racing in Europe, he will be another rider who can deliver for the team.
