Grow catch crops

Cleome spinosa is not only a pretty cut flower (watch out for the spines on the stems though, they are surprisingly sharp), but it doubles as a catch crop, enticing pests such as green vegetable bugs to congregate on it instead of your valuable vegetables. Plant cleome at the perimeter of your vege patch. It grows to about 1m high and has white or pink flowers.
